How to Remove Scratch From Windshield

There are several ways to fix scratches on your windshield, and none is difficult. These techniques are straightforward to apply and will result in professional-looking results. However, these methods are not suitable for damages that are deeper than 1 inch or cracks that are larger than 12 inches. Additionally, they may not give your windshield optimal clarity, especially for more severe damages. To get the best results, try to perform the repair in a cool, shaded area away from direct sunlight.

Clear acrylic nail polish

If you have scratches on your windshield, transparent nail polish may solve your problems. Clear nail polish is a fantastic scratch remover and can be applied in a thin layer over the scratch. Then, you can wipe off the excess before it dries. Another option is to apply a baking soda paste and water onto the scratch with a soft cloth. Once the paste dries, the scratch will be less noticeable. You can apply a metal polish to the scratch with a cotton ball. Again, be sure to rub in a circular motion.

Clear acrylic nail polish is an excellent option for scratch removal, but it’s not the best option for more significant scratches. You can only use it on minor scratches. Clear nail polish will cause a temporary visual impairment and won’t altogether remove the scratches.

Baking soda

Rather than paying a professional to remove scratches from your windshield, you can use some household items to get the job done. These items, such as baking soda and toothpaste, can be found in most kitchen cabinets, and they can work wonders on your windshield. You just need to know which ingredients to use.

First, you can make a paste using baking soda and water. Mix equal parts of the two ingredients, and rub the paste onto the scratch in a circular motion. You should be able to see the scratch disappear after about 30 seconds. Once you have finished applying the paste, wipe the scratch away with a clean cloth.

Next, you can try applying white toothpaste mixed with baking soda. This will work very well on scratches on windows and is a great way to eliminate minor marks that other car owners might overlook. Mix about a quarter of a tube of toothpaste with one teaspoon of baking soda. Rub the mixture into the scratched area using gentle pressure and a circular motion. After five minutes, you can use a soft cloth to buff away the scratch with the mixture. You can apply more toothpaste if needed.

Commercial-grade polishing compounds

When it comes to polishing your windshield, you can use a variety of commercial-grade polishing compounds. These compounds can be applied repeatedly over several days. Often, they will remove scratches and scuff marks. Some of these compounds are formulated for use on a glass windshield.

Commercial-grade polishing compounds are designed to remove heavy oxidation from vehicle surfaces. Unlike homemade polishing compounds, these products are safer for use on glass than toothpaste. Generally, these compounds are more abrasive than toothpaste and should be used cautiously. Using them correctly can remove minor scratches from windshields, though they should not be used on large areas.

You may also use a polishing wheel to remove scratches and wiper marks from your windshield. These tools are equipped with a dense wool-felt wheel mounted on an aluminum adapter plate. They are designed to work on both tempered and plate glass. You should work in a shaded area if you use this product.

Glass scrub compound

A glass scrub compound is a substance designed to remove scratches from glass. It is commonly used to remove dirt and grime, but it can be abrasive if rubbed on the glass for an extended period. Glass scrub compound is also commonly used to repair surface scratches on the car windshield glass. It is usually applied with a microfiber cloth and rubbed onto the scratch with even pressure. Before applying the compound, dampen the cloth with distilled water. Do not allow the compound to dry while rubbing.

A commercial glass scrub compound is made from rare finely ground earth elements and may contain polishing agents. Unlike a homemade compound, a commercial glass scrub compound will fill the scratches more evenly. You can purchase a glass scrub compound from an auto parts store or on the Internet.
